Some like it hot

…but I’m not one of them! It was 112 degrees here yesterday (44 degrees centigrade).

Two Months…

That’s how long it has been since I left Washington, D.C. and flew to Botswana. But how much have I really accomplished in these past two months?

A tough week

This was the first week where I really felt like crap all week. A disheartening meeting with Lesley, the continued lack of running water in town, and general feelings of homesickness combined for a tough couple of days.

The boss is back

Tico returned on Monday. There was some confusion about his arrival: no one knew exactly when he would be back. The McNutt’s younger son was supposed to start school on Monday so Margaret and I thought they might come back on Sunday, but then around noon on Monday one of the BPCT staff got a text message that Tico & Wilder would need to be picked up at the Maun Airport around 3 pm.

Fool me once, shame on you…

My flip-flops slapped the ground and my lungs burned as I tore around the corner of a cinderblock wall after Huxley. “Remind me again what’s so great about this darn dog?” I thought to myself, glancing up to see him chasing merrily after the donkeys. For the second time in a week, I found myself chasing after Huxley as he tore off into the neighborhood behind Lesley & Tico’s house.

Caught in the Act

This story features pap, one of the de facto national dishes of Botswana. It is made by adding flour to boiling water, and stirring until it is roughly the color and consistency of mashed potatoes. Hope you find it as amusing as I did!

In the early morning chill, we huddle around the campfire, clutching our mugs of tea and coffee in a desperate attempt to warm our hands.
